The RCP launched the MTI scheme in 2010 to allow international medical graduates (IMGs) to be matched with paid training fellowships in NHS (National Health Services) Trusts and Health Boards. This aims to create an opportunity to foster exchanges between the NHS and institutions abroad and to support the UK’s international development objectives. Under this scheme, there are a number of places made available for IMGs to undertake training and development for a maximum of 24 months and upon completion return to their home country. The MTI operates under the Government Authorized Exchange (GAE), sub category of the Tier 5 visa category.
Following discussion with the RCP regional representatives from Sri Lanka, the college decided to be involved in facilitating it in Sri Lanka as it provides an opportunity for our PG trainees to find overseas placements.
